Acceptable Use Policies

(AUP)

At TCSOS, technology supports teaching, learning, and work. Our Acceptable Use Policies help students, staff, and families understand expectations for digital citizenship, privacy, and security. These AUPs serve as formal notice under California Education Code §§ 48980 and 51871.5 and align with TCSOS Board Policy and Administrative Regulation governing technology use and Internet access.

Responsible Technology

& AI Use

Student Acceptable Use Agreement

The Student Acceptable Use Agreement explains how TCSOS technology — including devices, networks, and online services — should be used for learning. It outlines rules for safe, respectful, and responsible behavior online, guidance for using Artificial Intelligence in schoolwork, and policies for personal devices on campus. Students and families are expected to review these rules each year to ensure compliance with TCSOS policies, Education Code requirements, and federal laws like CIPA and FERPA.

Staff Acceptable Use Agreement

The Staff Acceptable Use Agreement sets expectations for employees’ use of TCSOS technology resources, including email, devices, networks, and AI tools. It details professional responsibilities, privacy and security requirements, and prohibited activities, with guidance on protecting student data and complying with laws such as FERPA, HIPAA, and CIPA. All staff must review and sign this agreement annually, confirming they will use technology ethically, securely, and in alignment with TCSOS Board Policies.

Artificial Intelligence Guidelines

The TCSOS Artificial Intelligence Guidelines for Staff provide best practices for using AI tools in a secure, transparent, and ethical manner. They explain the difference between public AI platforms and TCSOS-licensed systems, offer safeguards for handling Protected Data, and outline when and how to credit AI contributions. These guidelines support innovation while ensuring compliance with TCSOS’s Acceptable Use Policies, Education Code, and state and federal privacy regulations.
