Why This Week Matters
In our increasingly connected world, how we behave online matters just as much as how we behave in person. During Digital Citizenship Week (October 20–24, 2025), TCSOS joins educators nationwide in helping students become thoughtful, safe, and empowered digital citizens.
Digital citizenship is more than avoiding online risks — it’s about using technology to lead, learn, and grow responsibly.
This Year’s Focus
This year’s Common Sense Education theme encourages students and educators to explore how we use technology to build positive connections, think critically, and use AI responsibly.
Schools are invited to:
-
Integrate grade-level digital citizenship lessons throughout the week.
-
Encourage classroom discussions about screen time, privacy, and online kindness.
-
Reflect on how digital choices shape personal and community well-being.
How Tuolumne County Schools Are Participating
Schools across Tuolumne County are incorporating activities, lessons, and conversations designed to help students reflect on their online behaviors and digital footprints. Families will also receive take-home resources to help continue these conversations at home.
Together, we’ll be asking one important question:
How will I make a positive mark in my digital world?
Tips for the Week
-
Audit your digital footprint. Encourage students to look at what their online presence says about them.
-
Model mindful tech use. Staff and families can show students how to balance screen time with real-world connections.
-
Explore AI responsibly. Discuss how emerging tools can be used thoughtfully and ethically.
-
Keep the conversation going. Digital citizenship isn’t a week—it’s a lifelong practice.
