Interdistrict Transfers and the Role of the County Board in the Appeal Process

County boards of education decide appeals in interdistrict transfers, which can significantly impact the lives of students and their families.  This session will help board members understand their roles as appellate decision-makers by addressing the common elements of appeal procedures generally and the importance of understanding the standard and scope of review in an appellate process.  The session will also address specifically the legal standards for interdistrict transfer appeals, as well as practical considerations and real-life scenarios, so that board members will have a solid understanding of their responsibilities when considering these appeals.
