Remembering the Meaning of Memorial Day

TCSOS Offices and Schools Closed May 26 in Observance of Memorial Day

The Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools (TCSOS) will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025, in observance of Memorial Day. This national day of remembrance is set aside to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States.

As we pause to reflect on their sacrifice, we encourage students, families, and educators to take time to learn about the history and significance of Memorial Day.

Through the California State Library’s COMPASS suite, all California K–12 students and educators have free access to high-quality digital learning resources, including:

  • Encyclopedia Britannica School – Read age-appropriate articles, view historical photos, and watch videos about Memorial Day and U.S. military history.
  • TeachingBooks.net – Explore books and multimedia content that highlight themes of courage, service, and remembrance.
  • ProQuest Research Databases – Access newspapers, primary sources, and scholarly articles that provide deeper insights into America’s military past.

You can access these tools through the California K-12 Online Content Project.

As we enjoy a long weekend, let us take a moment to honor the meaning behind this day—and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms.
