On Thursday, June 19, 2025, the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools will join communities across the nation in recognizing Juneteenth, the federal and state holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Our education programs and offices will be closed in observance of this important day.
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day when enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, it is a time for education, reflection, and celebration of African American culture, resilience, and progress.
