Tuolumne Learning Center (TLC)

Tuolumne

Learning Center

The Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools operates the Tuolumne Learning Center (TLC) alternative education program. This community school includes both a middle school and a high school. TLC provides a comprehensive instructional program for district, SARB, and probation-referred students. TLC is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and provides students with curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure that students graduate from high school well prepared for college and careers.

Our program includes California standards-based core curriculum and instruction, credit recovery classes, physical education, and elective classes designed to help students develop their career goals and interests. Students are offered UC A-G courses, have opportunities to enroll in Career Technical Education courses, and take dual enrollment courses at Columbia College.

Our goal is to provide each student with a safe, supportive learning environment that enhances self-esteem and strengthens academic and social skills. The TLC staff use a trauma-informed approach with high-impact classroom strategies and routines, such as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and restorative practices. A full-time site-based therapist uses Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Substance Abuse Brief Intervention, and The Nurtured Heart Approach, in one-on-one, and group settings. Students at TLC feel engaged, connected, and have a sense of safety in school.
